How to gybe a 2000 in strong winds

20 Nov How to gybe a 2000 in strong winds

Whether you sail a 2000 and would like to get some tips, let’s face it, you’d be mad not to listen to any advice from the sailors involved in producing this, or you are just interested in sailing, this video really is a must-watch.

Using photos from the 2023 2000 National Champions Simon and Katie Horsfield, by renowned photographer Richard Bowers, West Country Boat Repairs’ Pete Vincent gives a detailed, yet easy to follow and understand commentary on the steps involved in a high wind gybe.

From the simplest, yet often ignored start point of ‘tell the crew’, to when to keep the speed on and when not to and how to avoid the slowest high wind gybe result of a capsize, every stage is covered.

Testament to Simon and Katie’s’ skill that these phtoos were taken during a Nationals race and not stage managed!

Thanks to Simon and Katie Horsfield, Adam Bowers, Keyhaven YC, the 2000 Class Association and of course our own Pete Vincent for collaborating to produce this video.
