Bespoke 2 day Boat Repair Workshop for HISC staff

15 Oct Bespoke 2 day Boat Repair Workshop for HISC staff

Three full time staff from Hayling Island Sailing Club, known as HISC, recently came on a bespoke advanced 2-day Boat Repair workshop, covering fibreglass and rotomoulded dinghies and RIBs.

Like many clubs, HISC  own a fleet of dinghies for their members and guests to hire and to use for courses, as well as owning a range of RIBs. These boats come under the care of Marine Manager, Sonnie Emeney and his team, who are responsible for maintaining them.

Sonnie said “West Country Boat Repairs’ course was a massive confidence boost for my team, as a manager, it was great to come away with them for 2 days and work together on this course. I would absolutely recommend it.”

The team were already familiar with basic repairs, so the course covered more advanced techniques, such as repairing significant glass fibre damage, including a holed boat. The aim was for the team to go away both confident and competent to carry out these significant repairs themselves, not only on fibre glass dinghies, but also to rotomoulded boats (the club have a fleet of RS Fevas) and to the fibre glass hulls of the club RIBs.

Not only will this save the club money vs sending the boats away to external contractors, but also result in quicker turnaround times, maximising the availability of the fleet, and enable the club to create a better impression by presenting a  fleet of well-mai ntained boats for those using them – we know many of us  have felt the frustration of using a  poorly maintained boat, be that at a sailing club or a holiday venue!

A less immediate benefit of well maintained club boats is to protect their value, meaning that less new investment is required when the boats are sold and replaced to keep the fleet up-to-date.

If you would like to discuss a course for staff or volunteers at your club please contact Pete. We can consider running a workshop at your club/premises as an alternative to at our WCBR base.

We also run workshops that you can book onto as an individual, that can be adapted to your area of interest/skill and can sometimes include a repair on your own boat, details are here, but please do call and discuss your thoughts with us.
